Deconstructing Japan's Image of South Korea: Identity in Foreign Policy
Taku Tamaki
What role does identity play in foreign policy? How might identity impact on Japan’s relations with South Korea? This book takes identity theorizing in International Relations theory a step further by attempting to account for a resilient collective identity that informs policy makers throughout time and space. Applying this framework to Japan’s relations with South Korea enables one to account for the lingering invectives between Tokyo and Seoul despite the drastic transformation in Japanese foreign policy in August 1945.
